Wilfredo Prieto is like a master magician who uses the simplest gestures to amaze us. “My ideas come, I think, from everyday experience,” Prieto explains, “and I think my work as an artist isn’t really to create these ideas but to grab at them. They are floating in the real world, like clouds. With minimal interventions and by using their visual immediacy, Wilfredo Prieto confers a new meaning onto familiar, everyday objects. The starting point of Prieto's work is the use of everyday objects. Conceptual artist Wilfredo Prieto explores the power of humor as an artistic strategy in his installations and interventions. With brazen flamboyance, Prieto makes visual puns in literal yet unexpected ways—such as sweeping dust under a rug for one piece—and always subverts typical expectations of a gallery space.
